Description

Pianist David Greilsammer has chosen two distant worlds from two centuries for the program of his new recording. Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) for the eighteenth century and John Cage (1912-1992) for the twentieth. Naturally, the two repertoires oppose each other, but they also complement one another. On one side, the immutable perfection of form and the stability of language with Scarlatti; on the other, innovation and exploration through the prepared piano, creating unprecedented sounds for John Cage, yet a similar designation 'sonatas' to unite the works. David Greilsammer pursues an exceptional career that takes him around the world; he is notably the performer and conductor of the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, with which he performs, among other works, Mozart's Concertos. During the 2013-2014 seasons, he served as the musical director of the Geneva Camerata, where his sense of innovation in programming is particularly noteworthy. His brilliant solo career has taken him to all corners of the globe, from Lisbon to New York, Verbier (Switzerland), Beijing, Shanghai, London, Paris, and Tokyo.
