By 2010, DARKSTAR had evolved into a more modern sound than the DARKSTAR that released the acclaimed single "Aidy's Girl is a Computer" in late 2009. Even then, that song and earlier singles like "Need You" or "Squeeze My Lime" hinted at what would become *North*, the new album from Hyperdub's most promising duo (who had already released several EPs for the group). James Young and Aiden Whalley adjusted their lineup by adding vocalist James Buttery, and the result is a masterpiece of understated and elegant dub pop, elevated by talented songwriting. Sometimes melancholic and dark, sometimes fresher and more optimistic, *North* will surprise many and grow on you with each listen.
