Darkenhöld emerged in 2008 as a trio made up of Aldébaran, Cervantes and Aboth, with the ambition of creating melodic, epic, atmospheric Black Metal imbued with the spirit of the 90s, from which the band has always drawn the essence of its influences. The band’s universe was established from the very beginning around a dreamlike medieval imagery, roaming the deep forests, high mountains and mysterious caves of the South-East of France, where the band originates. The old stones of fortified castles, fantastic bestiaries, tales and legends, and the dense, complex landscapes of the Côte d'azur are the sources of inspiration for a Black Metal that first made its mark with the release of two self-produced split-CDs in 2009, blending covers with original compositions. Introducing the band’s emblematic animal, the Vouivre, and laying the first foundations of its universe, they paved the way for the release of a first album, "A passage to the towers...", released in 2010. The band then released a second album, promoted throughout a French tour, before introducing the French language in its third collection, "Castellum", which opened up new horizons for them. The release in 2017 of their fourth album, "Memoria Sylvarum", self-produced, saw the band reach larger stages, with as a highlight a well-received performance at Hellfest in 2018. The year 2020 marked an additional milestone with the band signing to the label "Les Acteurs de l'Ombre Productions" and the release of their fifth album, "Arcanes et Sortilèges". Coming out of the covid period, which slowed the band’s rise, Darkenhöld returned to live activity in 2022 before beginning work on their sixth album, "Le Fléau du Rocher", due out on June 6, 2025.
