Description

Shortly after his birth in Turkey, his father dies and his mother decides to return to Mexico (her home country) where the family settles. A new life begins, he pursues an excellent education and starts studying law, which he decides to finish in Izmir, Turkey. But the allure of the nightlife is stronger, and he sings in the city's cabarets where a producer notices him and takes him on tour in the United States and Europe. In Paris, thanks to his comedic and exotic side, he easily finds engagements and records his first records. On stage, in the operetta repertoire, he is the partner of Luis Mariano. He signs a recording contract with Polydor and meets his first major success with the Air du brésilien (from La vie parisienne). He then becomes one of the most beloved entertainers of the 50s and 60s with his numerous recordings of South American songs. As an actor, he will appear in many films (over 30), in which he will wonderfully play his "comedic-exotic" character. In 1968, before disappearing, he will perform with Jacques Brel in L'Homme de la Mancha.
