Daniel Robert "Danny" Elfman (born May 29, 1953) is an American composer, producer (music), and actor. He became known as the singer and songwriter of the rock band Oingo Boingo (1976-1995) and later for composing the music for The Simpsons (TV and film) as well as for the music of the film Batman (1989). He is involved in most of the films of his longtime friend Tim Burton. Nominated 4 times for the Oscars, he won 1 Grammy Award for Tim Burton's Batman in the category Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Film and 1 Emmy Award for the music of the series Desperate Housewives. Elfman was honored with the Richard Kirk Award at the BMI Film and TV Awards 2002. The award is given each year to a composer who has made a major contribution to television film music.
