Description
Antonio Caldara belongs to the generation of late Venetian Baroque musicians born around 1670, in which he and Antonio Lotti excelled in the field of vocal writing. Joseph Fux, his colleague at the Viennese court, referred to him as a musician of "great virtue and great ability." The occasion for which Caldara wrote his Requiem is not established. The text inspired him to create music with a funereal atmosphere, featuring dark and somber colors. It is only in the Tuba Mirum that two trumpets are invited to proclaim the Last Judgment.
