Remarkable pianist and charismatic conductor, Daniel Barenboim celebrates his 60th career anniversary in 2011. On the occasion of his new collaboration with Universal, Deutsche Grammophon will release his piano recordings and Decca, his albums with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. Daniel Barenboim is an artist with an exceptional journey, whose influence goes well beyond the musical sphere, particularly through his political commitment to reconciliation between Israeli and Arab populations of the Middle East through the creation in 1999 of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra (which brings together Egyptian, Syrian, Lebanese, Jordanian, Tunisian, Israeli, and Palestinian musicians). From a one-time experience, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra has become a permanent ensemble of young instrumentalists who travel the world to demonstrate, under the baton of Daniel Barenboim, that "music is the language of peace." For its first recording with Decca, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim offers us a sensational interpretation of Tchaikovsky's "Pathétique" Symphony, combined with Schoenberg's Variations for Orchestra.
