There are very few classic rock singers whom you recognize after they’ve sung just a few notes. One of them is the voice of former singer of the Scottish rockers Nazareth: the legendary Dan McCafferty. After nearly fifty years of working on the road with the band, Dan had to retire for health reasons. However, this unique instrument, his voice, is still capable of rocking the house. With fifteen tracks, “Last Testament” is a stunning album with a full mix of lyrical and musical styles. There are rock songs, “My Baby” and “Bring It On Back” for example, but at the heart of this recording is a newly found freedom to explore creative avenues. There are reflective songs like “You And Me,” “Looking Back” and the very emotional first single “Tell Me” plus “Sunshine” (sung by Pete Agnew, his Nazareth bandmate, guesting on the track), which are tender love songs. Dan teamed up with Czech composer, accordionist and keyboard maestro Karel Marik, author of all the music and producer of the album. Dan wrote all the lyrics. Recorded and mixed at Substation Studio in Rosyth, Scotland by sound engineer Duncan Aitken and mastered by Eike Freese at Chameleon Studios in Hamburg, “Last Testament” is an exceptional album that will surprise, challenge and delight its countless fans around the world.
