Jewish-Spanish and Greek songs from the Aegean Sea. Born in 1992 in Paris to a Greek father and a French mother, DAFNÉ KRITHARAS draws her inspiration from the crossroads of East and West. She was rocked from childhood by the Jewish-Spanish songs performed by her cousin, cellist BAHIA EL BACHA. Singing as a mode of intimate expression quickly became evident to her. She sings in Greek and Jewish-Spanish, but also in French, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, or Turkish, through her discoveries and travels with guitarist and songwriter PAUL BARREYRE. The album Djoyas de Mar includes twelve tracks, five in Jewish-Spanish and seven in Greek. These songs, highly mixed, are linked to exile and uprooting. Most of the arrangements are by pianist and composer CAMILLE EL BACHA, a student of FABIEN WAKSMAN and JEAN-FRANÇOIS ZYGEL at the CNSM in Paris. NAGHIB SHANBEHZADEH, a young prodigy of Eastern percussion, has added his distinctive touch.
