Endorsed by Foxygen, here is the first album by Cut Worms, a true indie pop craftsman! “Hollow Ground” is the first album by Max Clarke after a demo EP titled “Alien Sunset,” on which the young songwriter delivered a collection of “demos” recorded at home, between Chicago and New York City. On this album, you can still feel the mark Chicago left on this young singer. So after this 6-song EP, Cut Worms once again returns to the hedonism of pop songs and reveals the sweetness of Max Clarke’s compositions. To record this first album, Clarke surrounded himself with Jonathan Rado of Foxygen and recorded in Los Angeles, but also worked with Jason Finkel in New York, giving the album a certain atmosphere, with Clarke playing all the instruments. Each song on “Hollow Ground” contains arrangements that are both deep and light. With this album, Max Clarke delivers a record that fits into the pure tradition of American pop (think The Everly Brothers), between romance (“Mad About You”), love songs like on “Think I Might Be in Love,” and lightness.
