Wheels of fire

Description

This mythical double album marks the peak of Cream’s career and perfectly illustrates the schizophrenia of Clapton, Bruce and Baker’s band. The first disc, brilliant and eclectic, recorded in the studio, focuses on the compositions. It includes the famous “Politician” and “White Room,” covers of “Born Under a Bad Sign” and Howlin’ Wolf’s “Sitting On the Top of the World,” as well as more pop-oriented tracks and others that are almost experimental. The second, a live set at the Fillmore containing only four long tracks (including the famous “Crossroads” and “Spoonful”), is a true deluge of virtuoso improvisations where the trio blows apart the structures of the blues to lay the foundations of what will become hard rock.
