The project of trombonist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist corto.alto (Liam Shortall) takes a new step with SOME SMALL FORTUNE, his second album and first on Ninja Tune. With an already acclaimed career (Mercury Prize 2023, Best Album at the Scottish Jazz Awards 2024, Act of the Year 2025), he delivers a bold work at the intersection of contemporary jazz and electronic music. Driven by this momentum, the album particularly explores how our past transforms over time: our memories are constantly altered, filtered, or idealized until they no longer reflect reality, and ultimately cease to belong to the current version of ourselves. Yet, there remains a form of resilience, a persistent ability to cherish this past, even when transformed, and to preserve an emotional trace despite its distortions.
