The Montreal band Corridor is back with their fourth album, Mimi, featuring a sound and style that is broader and more expansive than anything that has come before. While these eight songs reflect a new and contemplative maturity, Corridor diversifies more than ever with rich and detailed music, giving the impression of a new stage for a band that has already established itself as avant-garde. Mimi immediately recalls the best of what indie rock has to offer - the metallic atmospheres of Deerhunter, as well as the effervescence of classic post-punk - but despite these easy comparisons, Corridor remains impossible to pin down from one song to the next, making the listening experience of Mimi all the more exciting. Corridor crafted the initial parts of the songs digitally and remotely during the pandemic, with co-producer Joojoo Ashworth (Dummy, Automatic). The process was a byproduct of the inability to access their rehearsal space, but also the result of the quartet leaning more towards incorporating electronic textures than in previous albums. Mimi contains a distinct rhythmic pulse that recalls the fusion of dance and rock textures from the classic post-punk era.
