Attention, prodigy! Billie Holiday and Erykah Badu are the first names that come to mind as soon as you hear this 26-year-old Englishwoman born in Leeds. Like the delta girls (from Mississippi…), she started singing in churches while listening intently to bands like Led Zeppelin or Primal Scream. As a result, she also started strumming the (electric) guitar as soon as she began to arrange the magical notes that came out of her mouth. A first band, a stint in a jazz club, a passion for Björk and Massive Attack, her journey would be almost ordinary if Corinne Bailey Rae didn’t have this incredible gift for groove melodies that serve as the backbone for the eleven compositions of this debut album that we will not stop hearing about.
