First violinist highly regarded in the Concerto Italiano, Boris Begelman is the soloist in this ninth volume of violin concertos from the Vivaldi Edition. Boris Begelman regularly takes on the role of soloist in the numerous concerts that Rinaldo Alessandrini's ensemble dedicates to the music of Vivaldi and his contemporaries. It was time for the Vivaldi Edition to put him in the spotlight of one of its albums dedicated to the violin. This ninth volume also highlights Rinaldo Alessandrini's ensemble, already the author of thirteen works in the Vivaldi collection, in a purely instrumental repertoire where it excels as much as in vocal music, driven by a broad handling of the lines, inspired dynamics, and a language with which it is both perfectly familiar and innovative. It is precisely new horizons that Vivaldi opens with these late concertos, having adapted his writing, starting in 1725, to the evolution of tastes and the changes in styles, to this demanding "aesthetic of sensitivity," as Cesare Fertonani writes. The prete rosso stands out here for "the novelty of formal solutions, dramatic tension, and visionary theatrical dimension, as well as the diversity of expressive resources and represented affects." An eminently virtuosic and refined writing, which Boris Begelman renders luminous both in the spirited and fanciful Allegros (RV 211, RV 346), sometimes with an improvised feel (RV 283, RV 194), and in the central movements imbued with a supple and sensitive melodic grace, sometimes dreamlike (RV 211, RV 346).
