(Un)finished Symphony number 7 Lieder

Description

The bass-baritone Florian Boesch, a specialist in Lied, joins the finest orchestral talent from Austria, the Concentus Musicus Wien, to perform Schubert orchestrated by Brahms and Webern. Alongside the arrangements of Schubert's lieder, the famous and mysterious Unfinished Symphony (long referred to as the 8th, but now numbered 7) extends the program, topped off with two additional movements: a scherzo sketched by Schubert, completed in 2015 by composer Nicola Samale with the assistance of musicologist Benjamin-Gunnar Cohrs, and the overture to a stage music titled Rosamunde, concluding this time-traveling journey with a fascinating reconstruction. The exquisite voice and diction of Florian Boesch, supported by the musicians of Concentus Musicus Wien, flourish on the thread of Schubertian emotion, a deliciously tragic synthesis of love and suffering. The charismatic Stefan Gottfried, successor to Nikolaus Harnoncourt, leads the Viennese ensemble down romantic paths for our greatest delight.
