Like Water For Chocolate

Description

Vinyl reissue: In a long-bipolarized American scene, the reach of Common’s talent, coming out of Chicago, quickly established him as the alternative to many of the supposed hip-hop clichés hammered out by the big East Coast or West Coast productions. After three albums (including two under the name Common Sense) made for the Relativity label, which firmly established him as one of the best lyricists American rap has produced, this certified MC juggles every kind of narrative thanks to a polymorphous subtlety. If the regrettable departure of No ID from the compositions brings Common to a new stage in his art, one that sees his new musical creative team (Jay Dee, D'Angelo, and Brother Question of the Roots) draw more broadly from soul and jazz, the mere presence of "The 6th Sense," produced by DJ Premier, allows him to count one of the first classics of the year 2000 among his credits.
