Clubbing For Columbine

Description

Figurehead of a collective based in the suburbs of Rennes, the duo Columbine (Foda C and Lujipeka) embodies the perfect response of modern teens to a world falling to ruins. From their new mixtape Enfants Terribles emanates a wild romanticism, dreams of glory, and insults; the scents of a white-trash adolescent depression, the madness and sadness of a crew à la Odd Future. An aesthetic contained entirely within the duo's name: a shooting in an American high school and the will to make it out. It's a tension, a hint of despair but also a dreamy humanism, an altruistic individualism, a depressed air rifle: the dove and the Kalashnikov in the same breath. Loneliness, escape, and boredom parade between the speakers, carrying the band's muted violence; a ripped-open bag of words from which a slightly derailed urbanity escapes. A certain idea of adolescence and the world of tomorrow in which the thousands of kids flocking to their concerts find themselves. A fanbase that the collective built without anyone's help, in record time and with unprecedented success. Independent and autonomous, out of the game, out of the circuit, and almost out of competition, Columbine carve their own path: Luji and Foda write, produce, direct their videos, sell their records and their merchandise through their own structure, VMS.
