A brand new selection from the popular Studio One featuring rare and classic recordings of women in reggae.
With legendary artists like Marcia Griffiths, Rita Marley, and Hortense Ellis, as well as lesser-known rarities like Nina Soul, Nana Mclean, Denise Darlington, Myrna Hague, and also Doreen Schaeffer, a singer who was a founding member of the Skatalites. There are notable covers: from the classic soul of Tyrone Davis, Can I Change My Mind, to the 60s psychedelic classic by the Band, Turn Turn Turn, in a rub-a-dub style! Doreen Schaeffer reinterprets Alton Ellis's signature track I'm Still in Love with You, Nina Soul reinterprets the rocksteady anthem Barb Wire. A number of these tracks are virtually impossible to find and many have never been released since their initial release. The music on the album is of course great and includes support from all the founding groups of 13 Brentford Road, including the Skatalites, Sound Dimension, Soul Brothers, and the Brentford All Stars, as well as tracks of ska, rocksteady, roots, lovers, and more from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. All produced by Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd at Studio One Records, the number one sound of reggae music.
