Founded on Andreas Brunner-Schwer’s ambitious vision, these labels opened their doors to artists from around the world, transcending geographical and stylistic boundaries to give birth to universal music. In the 60s and 70s, these labels established themselves as European pioneers, offering a dynamic alternative to American giants like Blue Note and Impulse. Their catalog, rich and eclectic, embraced all facets of jazz: swing, bop, avant-garde, fusion, and of course, spiritual jazz. This open-mindedness, fueled by a desire to let artists fully express their creativity, gave rise to unforgettable works. This 17th volume highlights contributions from emblematic artists such as Elvin Jones, Nathan Davis, Pedro Iturralde, Hideo Shiraki, and many others. These musicians, from the Americas, Europe, and Asia, found in SABA and MPS a space where their ideas could flourish without compromise.
