Ancor che col partire

Description

It is with a tribute to the greatest of the Flemish Renaissance composers that Ricercar celebrates its 35th anniversary in a very original way! The work of Cipriano de Rore (1515/16-1565) enjoyed considerable success, far beyond his lifetime. Some of his madrigals can be found in dozens of ornamented versions, right up to the beginning of the 17th century, an entirely exceptional success. To mark this anniversary, Ricercar’s leading artists have made their original contribution to this album, which will offer a very comprehensive portrait of Cipriano de Rore’s work in the field of sacred music and in that of secular music. It is the madrigal Ancor che col partire, with its text full of erotic undertones and its many instrumental versions, that serves as the thread running through this program. More than ever, Ricercar continues on its path of research in the form of recordings that most often appear as the varied and illustrated pages of a vast “History of Early Music.”
