With Everything We Love, We Destroy, the Swiss band COILGUNS, emblematic figures of noise-rock, are more direct, immediate and instinctive than ever. Written in an increasingly opaque and complex world, this album is a furious, melancholic and, ultimately, hopeful response to the chaos surrounding them. After spending much of the previous year on the road, the band returned to La Chaux-de-Fonds, their hometown in Switzerland, enriched by experiences, energies and new perspectives drawn from contact with the people they met around the world. Without wasting a second, they wrote fast songs and recorded them right away in their improvised studio: an old warehouse filled with gear accumulated over twenty years of touring, experimentation and years of sonic creation. The result is an album built on instinct. COILGUNS describe their riffs as rawer than ever and their lyrics as clearer than ever, while their intrinsic strangeness remains intact. Faced with a world that seems increasingly absurd, contradictory and unstable, the band deliberately chose simplicity and boldness, stripping away everything superfluous to get to the essence of each song. This album marks COILGUNS’ reunion with the core team behind their previous release, Odd Love, recorded by Scott Evans (Neurosis), mixed by Tom Dalgety (Ghost, Pixies) and mastered by Robin Schmidt. The artwork reflects this same tension between anger and tenderness. Swiss artist Jessica Vaucher created an original embroidery on a simple sheet of cardboard, in continuity with her Connard series, where harsh words are patiently embroidered onto everyday materials using needles and red wool. The embroidery was photographed and overlaid with Delia Roulet’s bleeding heart-shaped logo, a symbol that has accompanied COILGUNS on stage since 2024. Everything We Love, We Destroy is about the choice of how we react to a world that is often incomprehensible. COILGUNS refuse to flee this reality.
