Coffees & Cigarettes is a strings-voice duo imagined by Renaud Druel aka MC Jesse (author, composer, and performer). He is accompanied by the violin of Anna Swieton, the viola of Lyllou Chevalier, or the cello of Quentin Gendrot for an original blend of French song, rock, and hip hop. While he used characters in the other albums, Renaud Druel offers us, with this new opus, introspective and cathartic lyrics.
This album is decidedly more hip hop and French song than the previous ones, but still with an aesthetic very inspired by cinema and pop culture, "Roller Coaster" is a skillful balance between acoustic and electronic. The result? Enchanting and swirling with the many strings this time omnipresent in the album. The album traverses a multitude of feelings and emotions through songs that are decidedly more personal and autobiographical. Coffees & Cigarettes offers us an album where humor, nostalgia, and sorrow intertwine.
