Rebel et Boismortier Les caractères d'Ulysse Suites pour 2 clavecins

Description

The discovery of Rebel's Dance Symphonies (1666-1747), a choreographic genre that combines dance and pantomime in which the narration is solely provided by the dancer, sparked the passion of two collaborating harpsichordists, Loris Barrucand and Clément Geoffroy. Rebel, the author of a single Tragédie Lyrique: Ulysse (1703), and the Elémens (1737), a suite of symphonies famous for its initial Chaos, is primarily a composer of symphonies meant to be danced: thus, Les Caractères de la Danse (1715), an uninterrupted succession of fourteen dances that achieved tremendous success. Of all his works, Rebel, true to his time, imagines that they can be performed "in the manner of a play on the harpsichord." And why not on two harpsichords? The richness of four virtuosic hands bursts forth on the two historical harpsichords from the Château de Versailles, played here for the first time in a duo. Ten years of collaboration between our two performers give the Ruckers (1628) and Blanchet (1746) harpsichords the flair of Boismortier's Ballet de Village and draw from Rebel the lightness of the Belle Danse and the mischievous Caractères d’Ulysse.
