La gazza ladra

Description

La gazza ladra (The Thieving Magpie) marks the culmination of the convergence between the serious and comic elements in Rossini’s work. The result is a perfect hybrid: a tragic opera with a happy ending that attains the status of a true opera seria. With its exceptional dramatic and musical qualities, La gazza ladra remains one of Rossini’s greatest operas, with an uninterrupted stage presence since its triumphant premiere in Milan in 1817. This production is conducted by Alberto Zedda, who made his debut as a conductor in 1956, produced the first critical edition of La gazza ladra, and is worldwide recognized as one of the greatest authorities on Rossini’s operas.
