Walton: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2; Orb and Sceptre

Description

For his first recording with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, conductor Kazuki Yamada chose three works by British composer William Walton: the two symphonies and the march "Orb and Sceptre" composed for the coronation of Elizabeth II, whose 100th anniversary we will commemorate in 2026. While Walton began as an avant-gardist, he increasingly aligned himself with the English musical tradition of Elgar and Vaughan Williams from the 1930s onward.
