Description

Born in 1749, Cimarosa was one of the major composers in all of Europe at the end of the 18th century. It was during his most fruitful period that he produced his Olimpiade, this grand opera seria transformed into a sumptuous drama of bel canto. Cimarosa elevates the athletes competing in Olympia in the Games, where the winner will marry Princess Aristea, to heroism: the seemingly inextricable plot allows the composer to create the most extraordinary arias ever composed on this libretto by Metastasio. Christophe Rousset, a great advocate of the Italian repertoire from the late 18th century, leads a dazzling cast in this bel canto hurricane!
