A concert cellist, composer, erudite collector, and instrument maker, Auguste Tolbecque has left his mark on the history of the interpretation of early repertoires, the history of collecting, and the reconstruction of ancient instruments. While several studies have focused on the life of the luthier and collector, the least explored aspect remains his musical work. Until now, no recordings of his compositions existed. The release of this CD, which coincides with the centenary of his death, serves as a testament to the multifaceted career of this important figure in French musical life in the second half of the 19th century.
