Long before establishing himself as one of the great voices of Scandinavian Americana, Christian Kjellvander recorded a series of tracks that remained separate from his albums. Portugal now brings together these B-sides and rarities recorded between 1998 and 2004, offering a valuable glimpse into the early years of his solo career. It includes Portugal, his most played track on the radio, available for the first time on vinyl, as well as covers of Over and Over by Neil Young and Waiting Around to Die by Townes Van Zandt, originally released on the 7-inch accompanying the first edition of Songs From A Two-Room Chapel. Completed by Lady Of The Land, from the sessions of this first album and long reserved for a limited CD edition, this compilation highlights the foundations of the pure and deeply melancholic style that characterizes Kjellvander's work.
