Description

Taken from the voluminous booklet of Métastase, this "drama set to music" by Leonardo Vinci was first performed in Venice in 1726, where it received immediate success. Since then, this opera has been set to music by several composers such as Vivaldi, Handel, Hasse, and Galuppi. The plot revolves around a family mystery intertwined with passion, betrayal, paternal affection, and honesty, echoing Shakespeare's King Lear. Rarely performed, this opera was chosen to open the 28th season of the Teatro San Carlo, under the baton of Antonio Florio, a specialist in Neapolitan baroque music.
