Frida Kahlo said, “Can we invent verbs? I would like to tell you one: I sky you, so my wings stretch, enormous, to love you without measure.” This message of love from the Mexican poet and painter inspired the first album of the Occitanie quartet, Yo Te Cielo. It is a canvas where the different universes of the four band members flourish. Full of nuances and contrasts, between harmonic sweetness and rhythmic subtleties, it showcases a certain musical maturity gained within the quartet. Chocho Cannelle follows in the tradition of contemporary jazz groups that have abolished stylistic boundaries. From the very first notes, the electro-llanera harp propels us into the colorful universe of the group. Eclectic, the compositions flow together, bright, evocative, and supported by superb improvisations. The instrumentalists play with their timbres and seem to dance, all in balance. Through a wide range of musical influences, the fluidity and coherence of the pieces sound like a given, once again confirming the quartet's distinct identity. This album exudes a true life force that is reminiscent of Frida's personality.
