Chet baker sings

Description

This album brings together all the tracks sung by Chet during his American period between October 1953 and August 1958. 44 tracks that would revolutionize the history of vocal jazz! Chet Baker is, along with Louis Armstrong, undoubtedly one of the few jazzmen to be regarded as innovative both as an instrumentalist and as a vocalist. When he recorded his voice for the first time on October 27, 1953, nothing that had been recorded up to then in the field of vocal jazz resembled this so delicate way of phrasing or the fragility of his timbre. In his voice, one finds the same vibrato and the same inflections as in his trumpet playing. The only one who seems to have exerted an influence on the young man, then aged 23, is Frank Sinatra. Half of the tracks sung by Chet during the 1953 - 1958 period (which preceded his second departure for Europe) had already been recorded by Sinatra. In five years, Chet Baker would leave his mark on all the great vocalists who would follow him, and not exclusively in the field of jazz.
