Recorded live at the Danish Radio Concert Hall

Description

Charlie Watts Meets the Danish Radio Big Band - Recorded live at the National Radio Symphony Hall, Copenhagen, Denmark. It is little known, but in the early Sixties, Charlie Watts lived for a few months in Denmark. The formation of the Stones dates back to 1962, and at that time the group did not yet have a defined identity... which means that Charlie had another job and found himself in Denmark, hired for a few months. While there, he frequented jazz and blues clubs, joined local musicians on stage, and thus maintained his passion for music every evening before returning to his day job the next day. In 2010, Gerard Presencer (arranger, musician) set up this live recording project with Charlie Watts: four days of rehearsals, before giving a concert on the fifth day as part of the opening of the new National Concert Hall of Denmark in Copenhagen. This concert would be recorded and broadcast by Danish National Radio. As Red Rodney - an icon of jazz trumpet - would say, "Charlie Watts' contribution to jazz is important because he is an ambassador for music and introduces jazz to many new listeners."
