MINGUS//VINYLE 180GR/REMASTERED

Description

At the time of this recording, Mingus was regularly working with the piano-less quartet consisting of Eric Dolphy, Ted Curson, and Dannie Richmond. The same group appears on the 1960 Candid album, Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus. The album Mingus, also recorded that year, includes one track, Stormy Weather, recorded with the same quartet, and two tracks recorded with a larger group featuring piano and additional horns. Notably, "MDM (Monk Duke & Me)" takes up the majority of this album. The piece consists of three intertwined themes - "Main Stem" by Duke Ellington, "Straight, No Chaser" by Thelonious Monk, and "Fifty First Street Blues" by Mingus. Released in 1961 and recorded in the fall of 1960 by Candid A&R and producer Nate Hentoff at Nola Penthouse Sound Studios. The LP includes extraordinary liner notes written by Hentoff, providing context and insights that enhance the experience of hearing these magnificent performances.
