The previous album opened with the apocalyptic message “The World (is Going Up in Flames),” but this time the opening is with a lovestruck Bradley jumping into a car with his girlfriend for a romantic road trip. Just like the wide range of emotions offered across the album’s eleven tracks, the music itself also evolves and touches on different styles, from the brass worthy of a Four Tops hit on “You put the flame on it” to an acoustic guitar straight out of one of Neil Young’s classics (on the title track “Victim of Love”); above all, it reflects an evolution like the psychedelic soul the Temptations offered in the early 70s. If we had to pick one track that sums up the spirit, emotion, and sound of this album, it might be “Through The Storm,” which sees Charles express, in a Gospel-like style, all his gratitude to his fans, his friends, and to God. “When the world gives you love, it frees your soul,” he sings. That is his message, his return of love to those who supported him through the years, and in the success of his new life, of his young career.
