Light in the Attic is proud to announce the long-awaited reissue of Synthesizing: Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat, the groundbreaking 1982 album by composer and musician Charanjit Singh. By blending classical Indian ragas with the most advanced Roland synthesizers and drum machines of the time, Singh created an electronic masterpiece that was well ahead of its time. Recorded live at HMV Studios in Bombay, Singh united the past with the future, merging the ancient Indian tradition of ragas (a melodic framework, similar to a scale, from which musicians improvise or compose) with pulsating electronic dance rhythms. Released quietly, the album fell into obscurity, and Singh stopped recording to focus on private concerts... but that’s where the story begins. Reissued in collaboration with the artist's rights holders, the album will be available on June 26. The 10 tracks have been remastered by Johanz Westerman at Ballyhoo Studio and spread across two vinyl records (2-LP) to ensure optimal listening quality. The pressing was done at Optimal Media, all presented in a gatefold sleeve reproducing the original artwork.
