Beethoven: The Symphonies was originally planned to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th anniversary in 2020. Yannick Nézet-Séguin, accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, presents the symphony cycle based on the complete performance material, including the musical text of the “New Complete Beethoven Edition.” In Symphony No. 9 in particular, one can literally hear and feel the difference, since Beethoven’s original contrabassoon part, recently rediscovered, is used for the very first time. This recording is also the Chamber Orchestra of Europe’s first complete Beethoven cycle recorded since the historic disc made with Nikolaus Harnoncourt in the 1990s.
