Composed of a Mass and 5 Hymns, The Organ Book of Nicolas de Grigny (1672-1703) published in 1699 represents one of the peaks of classical French organ literature.
This work is remarkable for the density of its writing that combines learned counterpoint and a sumptuous and bold harmonic language. It is no surprise, then, that Bach himself copied the work of the Reims composer, thus distinguishing it within the entire French school.
The version by André Isoir, recorded in 1972 by Georges Kisselhoff, offers the keys opening to the universe of Grigny.
