Two old buddies. Two “brothers in arms” who grew up and learned rap together. Formed on the banks of the Orne in 2000, the fanciful and cheerfully immature duo, obsessed with well-packed rhymes, has so far been outrageously sparing. Their CV is meager: an anecdotal mixtape in 2004, one track on each of Orelsan’s albums (“Entre bien et mal” and “Ils sont cools”), and a notable appearance on Taïpan’s album (“C’est beau de rêver”). The self-proclaimed “least productive rap group” is therefore finally deciding to come out of hiding and unleashes the frantic “Bloqué,” a bold and disconcerting first single from the upcoming album. On the menu of an out-of-the-ordinary record: unhinged fables, absurd aphorisms, and cheeky barbs against a backdrop of pop nostalgia. The two longtime partners take French rap where it has never yet set foot. They are cool. Too cool.
