The harshness of his words contrasts brilliantly yet strangely with his groovy compositions, swinging between Philly soul, Norcal psych, and New York paranoia, articulated by his concerts, which are more spontaneous and cheerful. And his hip-hop and beat poetry influences are also more evident on Mangy Love. Produced by Rob Shnapf, the album features some artists of the same vein like Blake Mills or Angel Olsen, who notably appears on the first single Opposite House.
