L'Orchestre du XVIIIe Siècle continues the vibrant musical journey undertaken by its founder, Frans Brüggen, with guest conductors. The orchestra tackles Beethoven's powerful Missa Solemnis with Daniel Reuss, already preceded by immense respect for this repertoire by recording numerous choral works at the helm of Cappella Amsterdam. This fantastic Dutch choir possesses all the qualities, particularly vocal agility and a keen dramatic sense, to approach this glorious and solemn work. For its part, L'Orchestre du XVIIIe Siècle knows how to interpret Beethoven on period instruments, as already shown by the cycle of symphonies performed in concert, the piano concertos, and Fidelio. This background is absolutely necessary for a work as demanding as the Missa Solemnis (composed between 1819 and 1923). This new recording is not only accompanied by an elegant booklet but also by a selection of images taken by the photographer (and violinist!) Annelies van der Vegt during a tour in the Netherlands with this Missa Solemnis.
