Description

The first album by Carolina Katún accompanied by Teol Singer of Swiss-Mexican origin, Carolina Katún and her group TEOL distill a minimal, fresh, and mixed music through which jazz, Latin American music, and others (baroque, folk, improvised music...) merge. Listening to her voice, numerous influences evoke in turn, the vocal depth of Mercedes Sosa, the originality of the singer Lila Downs, the minimalism of Simon Diaz, the lyricism of Ella Fitzgerald, and the experimental inclination of Sidsel Endresen. Her project TEOL, born at the end of 2015, develops with three figures of French jazz: the double bassist Nicolas Moreaux, the guitarist Pierre Perchaud, and the percussionist Arthur Alard. These musicians residing in Paris make this project of mixing Latin American music, jazz, baroque, folk, improvised... possible with the aim of finding a new, unique group sound. The repertoire of "Al Silencio" is composed of essential Latin American pieces such as the Mexican ranchera "La llorona," and others less known, like "Le tengo al silencio" by Athahalpa Yupanqui. The group also opens up to other horizons like pop and baroque music through pieces by Robert Wyatt or Purcell.
