45 years is how long it took to find Santana again in its near-original lineup since Santana III in 1971. At the initiative of this reunion, Neal Schon decided in 2013 to bring back pianist and singer Gregg Rolie, percussionist Michael Carabello and drummer Michael Shrieve around virtuoso guitarist Carlos Santana, in the studio. Ronald Isley, the singer of the Isley Borthers, was invited to collaborate on two tracks as well (Love Make The World Go Around & Freedom In Your Mind). After two years of writing and recording sessions, 16 new tracks were born that have nothing to envy from what made the group’s first successes after their discovery at Woodstock in 1969. From the Cha-Cha/Latin jazz rhythms of Anywhere You Want To Go, to the wild blues-psychedelic guitar solos (All Aboard), via the frenzied percussion of Freedom In Your Mind and Choo Choo, IV definitely bears the historic hallmarks of the quintet. Early fans will recognize in the cover of IV a nod to the band’s first self-titled album, which was released in 1969. "We didn’t have to force ourselves. It was huge." Carlos Santana.
