The performance of Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss conducted by Carlos Kleiber from 1975 is essential in his discography. Recorded at the Herkulessaal in Munich, it shines with an exceptional stage atmosphere for a studio recording, a top-notch cast featuring Júlia Várady, Lucia Popp, Hermann Prey, René Kollo, and Bernd Weikl, as well as an incredibly flexible orchestral sound. The Bavarian State Opera Orchestra was Kleiber's favorite orchestra in the operatic repertoire, and this recording was his first with the ensemble. The Blu-ray audio offers the recording in 2.0 Stereo, 5.1 Surround Sound, and Dolby Atmos.
