Up in Flames, the second album by Dan Snaith, was originally released under the name Manitoba on March 31, 2003. Recorded with the same amateur equipment as its predecessor, it reveals a completely different artist: a kaleidoscopic whirlwind of sunny melodies, catchy percussion, and psychedelic pop that abandons the intimate atmosphere of Start Breaking My Heart for a warmer, broader, and more joyfully abundant vibe, drawing inspiration from the psychedelia of the 60s, the confidence of Madchester, and the melancholy of shoegaze. Following a highly publicized lawsuit, Snaith was forced to change his artist name, and Up in Flames remains the last album released under the name Manitoba – a triumphant release. The album was critically acclaimed and has since been recognized by Pitchfork as one of the standout albums of the 2000s. It is generally regarded as one of Snaith's best and most beloved albums.
