La Cappella Neapolitana has rescued from oblivion a magnificent Neapolitan oratorio from the 18th century. Antonio Florio and the musicians of the Cappella Neapolitana have saved from oblivion a masterpiece of Neapolitan Baroque: an oratorio by Donato Ricchezza, a treasure not only for the beauty of the music but also for the new information it sheds light on the form of the Italian oratorio. From this in-depth musicological research, this recording of Los Santos Ninos ("Oratorio di San Giusto e San Pastore"), written by Donato Ricchezza (circa 1650-1722), who was a student of the great Francesco Provenzale, results. The oratorio tells the story of child martyrs in 4th century Spain. Marta Fumagalli (contralto), Federica Pagliuca (soprano), Luca Cervoni (tenor), and Giuseppe Naviglio (bass) shine in their role as soloists.
