Concertos pour piano Numéro 2 et Numéro 5 - L'Égyptien

Description

Macedonian pianist full of passion and awarded multiple times, Simon Trpceski continues his series of piano concertos on Linn Records with a "spectacular" (Bachtrack) live recording of Saint-Saëns' Piano Concertos Nos. 2 & 5, which he performed in Glasgow with Thomas Søndergård and the energetic Royal Scottish National Orchestra. It took Saint-Saëns 17 days to compose his Second Concerto – and to learn it before the premiere under the baton of Anton Rubinstein! An achievement as impressive as the quality of the work, whose movements evoke Fauré and Bach. The Fifth Concerto – whose second movement is the origin of the title "Egyptian" for the work, featuring the sound of croaking frogs and the Nubian melody that Saint-Saëns heard sung by the boatmen of the Nile – is the composer's response to Wagnerian fever. Saint-Saëns indeed seems to suggest to his compatriots other possible paths of inspiration. The Concerto showcases the virtuosity of both the composer and the pianist.
