Il Concerto Segreto

In the last years of the 16th century, the court of Ferrara enjoyed an exceptional musical activity dominated by a remarkable trio of female voices, whose talent was under the responsibility of the court's music master, Luzzasco Luzzaschi. Hearing them was a privilege that Alfonse d'Este dispensed in very small doses to his guests. Their repertoire was kept secret and was only partially published in 1601. It is to the entirety of this collection that the singers of La Néréide dedicate their first recording, also reconstructing the conditions under which these works were created with the accompaniment of the harpsichord played by Luzzaschi, the viola, the harp, and the lute, which the three singers mastered as skillfully as their voices.
