Dear Uncle Lennie is the new project of pianist and composer Camille-Alban Spreng. Similar to Japanese haikus, each piece in this new repertoire for guitar, banjo, and piano represents an idea, a fanciful story, a fleeting image of a picturesque landscape. The guiding ideas are raw, condensed, and highly evocative. The short pieces follow one another, blending jazz, folk, and improvised music, creating a mythological tapestry where the stories are told without words, through musical evocation and with the help of the listener's imagination. - - How to create a story without words and through music that is as powerful and evocative as the tales we were told as children by the fireside? - - This music has been shaped by the sounds of Marco Giongrandi on banjo and Benjamin Sauzereau on guitar. The piano strings have been muted or prepared to match the aesthetic dictated by the unique blend of these two sounds. The writing itself was inspired by tales of the American Civil War, fireside stories, cornfields, and songwriters such as Leonard Cohen, Patrick Watson, Sufjan Stevens…
