They are together, in the city as on stage! Lars Danielsson and Caecilie Norby have been married for years but for a long time they led separate careers. The Danish singer first made a name for herself on the local Danish scene as a jazz-funk singer, before crossing the Atlantic and becoming the first European artist to be signed to Blue Note. The label then allowed her to play with Chick Corea and Mike Stern. Lars Danielsson, after making a name for himself with Charles Lloyd or the Brecker Brothers, embraced an international career and over the years became one of the pillars of the ACT label, both as an artist and a producer. The album starts with a tender, dreamy, deep bass line that sculpts the silence. It is a dream of melody and only a musician of Danielsson's caliber can produce such a harmonic wonder with his instrument. He is joined by Caecilie who performs Joni Mitchell's eternal ballad "Both Sides Now" with a sensuality rooted in the blues. With these few notes, the two magicians take the listener on an emotional journey to the heart of their intimate musical universe. Danielsson creates a sensitive setting for his partner by also showcasing his skills on cello, percussion, and revealing himself to be an excellent guitarist. Caecilie masters all registers, able to charm us with her muted voice or engage us with her vocal punch. The variety of emotions and expressions is astonishingly rich. With few means, they achieve the feat of recording an entertaining album without compromising on an extremely high-quality subtle production. Apart from the covers of Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and Abbey Lincoln, the duo reveals their own compositions, including Danielsson's contemporary standard, "Liberetto."
